Revere, Massachusetts, established in 1630, was one of the earliest settlements in the original Massachusetts Bay Colony. Unlike surrounding areas, the town did not officially incorporate until 1846, over two centuries later. Its proximity to Boston and the Atlantic Ocean has always been integral to its success.

 

In the early 1800s, Revere—then part of Chelsea—was primarily agricultural, with small farms and fishing operations sustaining the local economy. The advent of the railroad in the 1830s and subsequent expansions significantly improved travel and access to the area, making Revere more appealing for both industry and tourism by directly connecting it to Boston and other urban centers. Late in the century, factories producing shoes, rubber products, and textiles began to emerge, often powered by steam and later electricity. Revere also gained national recognition for candy production, notably NECCO wafers.

 

As the city transitioned into the twentieth century, manufacturing flourished. It became the hub for manufacturers of optical equipment, control systems components, and various industrial devices and products. Revere Beach developed into a popular summer destination. In recent years, healthcare and senior services companies have established operations in the area. The proximity to Logan International Airport has also fostered the growth of many logistics and freight handling businesses.
