Milford was incorporated in 1780 and initially relied on agriculture. As technology advanced, the town became a major boot and shoe producer, once leading the nation in output. 

 

Discovered in 1870, Milford is famous for its pink granite, which supported the local economy until about 1940 and was used in various buildings, including Worcester City Hall and the Boston Public Library. The introduction of Interstate 495 has spurred rapid residential growth, nearly doubling the population to over 30,000 residents in the past 50 years.
