Beverly, Massachusetts, first settled in 1626 and recognized as a town by 1668, originated from Salem and the Naumkeag Territory. Initially, its economy was based on subsistence activities such as farming, fishing, and modest trading typical among colonial settlements in New England. As the 18th century arrived, Beverly evolved into an important maritime hub, with fishing, shipbuilding, and international commerce becoming economic mainstays. Over time, the waterfront shifted from heavy industry and shipping toward recreational and residential projects, including marinas and housing developments, which boosted property values and municipal revenue.

Moving into the 21st century, Beverly has broadened its economic base even further. The downtown area has been revitalized with new restaurants, shops, and cultural spots drawing both locals and tourists. Endicott College, with part of its campus in Beverly, has grown considerably and now plays a key role in the local economy by bringing students, jobs, and academic resources to the area.
