Bellingham, Massachusetts was settled in 1713 and incorporated in 1719, making it one of the earlier communities in what is now the MetroWest region.

 

In the 19th century, Bellingham's economy was driven by manufacturing, including cotton and woolen goods, straw bonnets, boots, and shoes. The town also had iron ore deposits, which contributed to its industrial development.
